Pair Mid-Century Armchairs attr Gio Ponti

A gently organic and very comfortable pair of  club chairs, or tub chairs, attributed to Gio Ponti for Casa e Giardino.

 Italy circa 1950

The present chairs have proven to be one of the most enduringly attractive designs from the Italian mid-century modern movement. Of perfect proportions and great comfort they are an ideal balance between the formality of the late 1930’s and some of the more experimental forms of the post war era. Avoiding both theatrical, revivalist trends and the extreme angular models of his contemporaries seeking to shock the chairs look as fresh today as it did 80 years ago.

A curved sofa of the same model is also available.
