A Mid-Century Curved Sofa attr. Gio Ponti

A gently organic and very comfortable sofa, attributed to Gio Ponti for Casa e Giardino, a slight variation on the models produced for the Hotel Bristol, Merano in 1938 and 1950.

Italy circa 1950

The present sofas and the armchairs of the same model have proven to be one of the most enduringly attractive designs from the Italian mid-century modern movement. Of perfect proportions and great comfort they are an ideal balance between the formality of the late 1930’s and some of the more experimental forms of the post war era. Avoiding both theatrical, revivalist trends and the extreme angular models of his contemporaries seeking to shock the sofas and chairs look as fresh today as they did 80 years ago.

Another sofa, slightly shorter, also available H 80cm x  W 150cm x D80cm (H 31½  x W 59 x D 31½ in) and matching armchairs.
