A Pair of Gilded Bronze Occasional Tables

In the manner of Marc Bankowsky

A sculptural and whimsical pair of beautifully cast bronze tables, naturalistically modelled in the form of trees, each with a single songbird on a branch. A true pair, ie when stood next to each other the birds face inwards and each table modelled individually rather than being two casts of the same piece.

Both tables signed CD.

 France, circa 1997

Marc Bankowsky is a French artist who studied originally at the L’école Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) and at The Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Art.

Well known in the 1960’s and ‘70’s his avant-garde conceptual work in rope and textiles was widely exhibited including a commission from the Centre Georges Pompidou and at the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

Now working primarily in bronze in 1997 he was commissioned to create a set of gilded bronze naturalistic furniture   for the Christian Dior Haute Couture boutique in the Avenue Montaigne.

The present pair of tables have enormous appeal, successfully combining a light and organic aesthetic with the inherent glamour of the material in a notably well cast piece of highly usable ‘sculpture’.
