An exceptional Italian cabinet
Milan c. 1955
A particularly fine, large cabinet with five doors, enclosing shelves, and four drawers in the centre. With few straight lines, the unusually complicated construction would have been expensive to produce. The entire form gently bows out to the front, the sides taper down to a cut out integral plinth, and the doors are panelled out. The back of the open shelf is undulating and decorated with hand-coloured, fluted gesso to give a graphic sense of movement and lightness that echoes the bronze mounts below.
Width 300 cm
Height 100 cm
Depth 53 cm
Rosewood, satin-birch, glass and coloured gesso with bronze mounts.
